M is for Minimum Disruption
Award-winning hotel group CitizenM prides itself on its innovative design. So who better to entrust with the utility infrastructure for its first ever UK hotel than Energetics – the company that takes an equally innovative approach to utility design and installation.
The Challenge
A busy city-centre location just steps from Glasgow’s main theatre and shopping district was the obvious choice for CitizenM’s first ever UK hotel. Less obvious, however, was how best to install the utility infrastructure in a congested part of town, without detracting from the overall look and feel of the boutique hotel – or disrupting the public at large.
And with this being CitizenM’s first venture in the UK, the project had additional PR pressure, and with guest names already in the diary, this project had to be connected on time.
The Solution
Working closely with CitizenM’s own architects, Energetics created a bespoke design positioning the substation to the rear of the ground floor, thereby hiding it from public view and maximising retail unit space to the front of the building.
And because we had first-hand knowledge of the site and surrounding area having worked on a project directly adjacent, we were able to ensure from the outset that the design could be installed and connected in such a busy area with the minimum of disruption.
It’s this value-added combination of design and build expertise that helped ensure the stunning eight-storey hotel and retail units, once open to the public, made a lasting impression for all the right reasons.
