Energetics go Beyond the Obvious at Media City
Involving one of the UK’s largest ever infrastructure projects in an already congested part of Manchester, MediaCityUK had ‘challenge’ written all over it. But that didn’t stop Energetics delivering on time and within budget.
The Challenge
Undaunted by its size and complexity, we brought together our design and build expertise from day one to identify the restraints posed by existing utility assets and offer workable alternatives ensuring the project was connected on time and within budget. Our designers also had to take into consideration the Manchester ship canal being between the nearest point of connection and the MediaCity site.
The Solution
Innovative design, ambitious engineering and our customary Connected Thinking approach enabled the team to deliver workable alternatives that included a more compact substation design to maximise valuable real estate, a fully automated back-up system to minimise fault interruption and an ambitious cabling route involving a thrust bore under the Manchester Canal to reduce cabling.
Combined, our Connected Thinking approach helped the project stay on schedule and delivered the customer real added value. Proof, if ever there was, that it’s possible to balance an eye for innovation with the practicalities of delivering on time and within budget.
“The team has delivered on time and within budget on one of the largest and most complex electrical infrastructures in Europe.” John McGrath, Building Services Director, Bovis Lend Lease UK Limited
