About the role:
As an Electrical Design Engineer you will provide technical leadership and design approval on a range of electrical infrastructure projects including domestic, commercial, residential and multiple-occupancy properties. You will also be responsible for application of legislation, regulation and industry standards across all designs.
Your responsibilities:
- Approve all electrical infra-structure designs for industrial, domestic and multiple-occupancy projects
- Monitor industry developments and contribute to on-going design strategy within the department
- Provide design approval for area of expertise, ensuring that designs comply with current electrical standards, regulation and legislation
- Provide detailed technical support to Designers within area of specialism, ensuring designs achieve quality, safety and cost targets
- Ensure excellent electrical advisory support, through liaison with all project stakeholders
- Work as part of the Design Engineering team to develop, monitor and maintain a standardised approach to Electrical design
- Provide regular technical updates to the Design team, ensuring a consistent approach to design
- Actively participate in industry associations, disseminating and implementing engineering recommendations
- Undertake post-project reviews, identifying opportunities to improve project performance
What we are looking for
Essential:
- Significant, demonstrable experience on a range of electrical project including:
- Low Voltage domestic and industrial /commercial
- High Voltage cable networks
- Substation layouts
- Detailed knowledge of applicable standards and guidance including ENA, G81/G88
- Experience of using a range of IT systems including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook
- Good knowledge of CAD software and current drawing conventions
- Working knowledge of WinDEBUT software
- Good knowledge of utilities market, including DNO / IDNO arrangements and policies
- Experience of project contracts, costing and post project analysis
- Knowledge of CDM regulations
Desirable:
- Experience of providing technical leadership across a range of relevant projects
- Experience of quoting and design approval of Primary substations and 33kV networks
- Experience of training / updating colleagues and helping colleagues progress through IET professional registration
- Experience in electrical earthing
- Evidence of relevant CPD, developing design strategies and of working within a relevant operational setting
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Incorporate Engineer Status recognised by IET (or expected to achieve within 6 months)
- SHEA Power
Desirable:
- Chartered Engineer Status
- Degree or equivalent in Engineering
- Degree in approved subject
- Appropriate Health and Safety Qualification
- Electrical Authorisations, safety qualifications or experience
- NRSWA Supervisor
